 Intense Tropical #CycloneIdai is regarded as one of the worst tropical cyclones on record to affect Africa and the Southern Hemisphere as a whole.

The long-lived storm, considered a Category 5 on Saffir Simpson scale, caused catastrophic damage in Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe, leaving more than 750 people dead and hundreds more missing.

The damage to infrastructure in the countries affected by Cyclone Idai—Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe —has led to a loss of more than $1 billion, according to the Economic Commission for Africa. Beira which is one of Mozambique’s largest cities was the epicentre of the disaster.
